통화가 가능한 시간을 알려줄때

 He will be back in about 10 minutes : 그는 10분쯤 후에 돌아올 겁니다.

 Mr. Kim is supposed to show up at 12 o'clock today. ; 김씨는 오늘 12시에

                                                        나올 예정입니다.

 He'll be back by three o'clock. : 그는 3시경에 돌아올 겁니다.

 He'll be back around four o'clock : 그는 4시경에 돌아올 겁니다.

 

서로 연락을 하고플때

 Please come and see me once in a while. : 가끔 만나러 오세요.

통화중일 때

   : 지금 다른 전화로 통화중이에요.  제가 즉시 전화드려도 될까요?

 I'm sorry, but his line is busy at the moment.

  : 미안하지만 그는 통화중입니다.

잘못 걸린 전화일 때

이해를 확인할때

올해는 토끼해입니다.

    몰랐어요. 그래서 가게마다 온통 토끼모양 물건이었군요.

d : Rabbit. So I guess this year I'll be lucky in everything I do.

   토끼띠.   그러니까 난 올해 운수가 좋을거야.

   미국은 토끼발(rabbit's foot)을 행운을 가져다주는 부적(lucky charm)

   으로 생각하고 몸에 지니고 다녔다고 함.

 

대답을 회피할 때

 I'd rather not tell you how old I am. ; 나이를 말하고 싶지 않아요.

 How old do I look?  : 몇 살처럼 보여요?

 Guess how old I am. : 제가 몇 살인지 짐작해보세요.

 Sorry, I don't usually tell people my age. : 저는 평소에 남에게 나이를 말하지 않습니다.

잘못을 인정하다.

 I don't see it that way. ; 그것을 그렇게 보지 않아요.

 I cannot support your opinion. ; 당신의 의견을 지지할수 없습니다.

 That's out of the question. ; 말도 안되는 이야기입니다.

전화벨이 울릴때

 음주에 대하여

  I'm a heavy drinker. : 술고래 입니다.

  I drink to forget my worries. : 걱정거리를 잊기위해서 술을 마신다.

  I usually go out drinking with my co-workers after work. : 보통 퇴근후

                                                             동료들과 술을 마시러 갑니다.

  I become very talkative when I drink. : 나는 술을 마실때는 아주 말이 많아집니다.

  It's my rule never to drink before eight. : 8시 전에는 술을 안 마시기로 하고 있습니다.

  근무시간에 대하여

  Our office hours are 9 to 5 on weekdays and 9 to noon on Saturdays :

                            평일은 9시부터 5시까지, 토요일은 9시부터 정오까지 입니다.

  Does your company have a five-day work week? : 귀사는 주5일째 근무입니까?

  No, but our employees get every other Saturday off. : 아닙니다.

                            우리 종업원들은 격주로 토요일은 쉽니다.

 He's on a business trip in Pusan all this week : 그는 이번 주 내내

                                                  출장으로 부산에 계십니다.

 

기한을 말하다.

 The contract holds good for three years. ; 그 계약은 3년 유효합니다.

 The ticket is good for five days. ; 이 표는 5일간 유효합니다.

 Not to be sold after 2/28. ; 판매기간은 2월28일까지 입니다.

 I'll let you know by Monday. ; 월요일까지 알려 드리죠.

 He will be back within a week. ; 그는 일주일 내에 돌아옵니다.
